Libraries are here to provide information and ideas, in a variety of formats, for people to explore themselves.Intellectual freedom encompasses the freedom to hold, receive and disseminate ideas.It provides free access to all expressions of ideas, through which any and all sides of a question, cause or movement may be explored.
Intellectual freedom is the right of every individual to both seek and receive information from all points of view without restriction.At their core, libraries are here to uphold these values and provide individuals a safe environment to learn, create, and gather.Īs the American Library Association states: Everyone, including teens and kids, has the right to express themselves and their ideas freely.
